My grade:

Ok so I will be referencing the IOC Rubric to grade my practice. I apologize in advance because I feel like the rubric's wording is a little vague (?) Also I have incorporated some questions that I ran into while doing this so if anyone has the answers...

Criterion A: probably a 3/4 : I feel like I remained only referencing one theme, ( appearance vs. reality) and I'm not sure if I should have mentioned more. But I also did reference the texts for all of the points I made.
- Question: Should I reference all of the qualities of the text or just the ones that stand out the most?

Criterion B: 5/6 because I feel as though I did mention literary features and their impact on the text and the reader, although I feel as thought for every single point I was just stating the same thing over and over again, which isn't great. Also my 'effects on reader' was somewhat basic and general and I don't think it was that great.

Criterion C: Okay I think my structure was good so I give myself a 4. Not a 5 because I feel as thought there is area to improve and I'm not sure if my structure was the best. But I did have an Intro, Body (4), and a Conclusion. So I do believe it was organized to some extent.

Criterion D: 5, I feel as though I spoke clearly, despite some pauses. But overall I think I was clear and coherent in my thoughts, just a little repetitive though.

In conclusion: I feel like I did decent? But I do think there is area for improvement! Take a listen and let me know (or not, my voice sounds horrible and my pets are kinda noisy in the background I apologize). Let me know how to improve please!

  1. I think the strongest parts of your IOC are definitely how you tied this excerpt and its meaning to the text overall, as well as the characterization of Lady Macbeth. I also think you have a good grasp on how dialogue builds characters and mood. I also liked how you brought up something we've discussed in class: the symbolism of the blood.

  2. I thought that your IOC was pretty good! I really liked how you spent a little more time on the background because that's a good use of time! I totally agree on the vague parts in the rubric (lol) but I think that you did really well. I think your overall introductory statements were a good start to your IOC, and how you connected it back to the text and kept pretty organized throughout. I agree with you on the pauses, and don't worry about that!! You had some really great points and you should feel confident about that! Good job!

  3. Hey!

    A: 6
    B: 5
    C: 3
D: 3-4 (some informal language, a bit of repeated phrasing (this affects your B score))

Both Rachel & Anna give you some great feedback here I also agree with your own assessment about organziation. Feel like you are running out of things to say? Not sure about organization?

I've had students use this as almost a "checklist" to structure their IOC.
